Therapy and counselling

In this section I describe my personal way of working with people. I share my vision around healing and I present some techniques and tools that can support the therapy process.

Therapy and counselling sessions

When starting a therapy process we usually begin with some Inner Child sessions, which is a gentle yet powerful method to open to our inner world. It helps to understand both our main psychological wounds (the wounded child) and our personal or Essential qualities (the magical child) within a relatively short number of sessions. Once the building blocks of a person’s psyche are more clear, the sessions can take a different focus or direction depending on each person’s specific needs. Some people need to built resources and inner confidence, some other need to soften a very rigid and protected sense of self and some need both.

In general we have all built some protective mechanisms (to avoid being hurt as children) that are now keeping us trapped and that prevent us to fully live our potential. Alexander Lowen said: “the protective castle of the child becomes the prison of the adult”. When we start to develop more self-awareness, we might realise that we “live in a prison” in the sense that we keep re-enacting the same old patterns, experiencing the same feelings and the same thoughts in loop. Healing happens when we become aware of this and we start stepping out of it.

Once we understand the kind of ego structure that we have built and once we start seeing the true qualities of our Self and recognising the colours of our Soul, we can start reflecting on what is the best way to support the process of reconnection to the true Self. I always try to guide each person in full acceptance and without forcing anything. I believe that we truly heal only when we are allowed to be relaxed, at ease, without a deadline and fully embraced in our wholeness. I always keep in my heart and mind the wholeness of every Soul. The Soul is already perfect, fulfilled, free, at peace, complete. The only thing needed is remembrance, and to stabilise our identity in this recognition, in the remembrance of who we Are. Beyond that, there is nothing to do and nothing to heal.

What is health?

Health or sanity is a state in which the body-mind supports the person’s energy to be channelled freely. A state in which the body-mind allows the spontaneous unfolding of a person’s natural potential (the energy of her Soul, of her Being). We are soul, we are energy, we are Beings of light, but trauma can impair the possibility of embodiment of manifestation and of expression of our innermost Selves. Trauma is a situation in which the person’s energy is wasted in coping with inner incongruencies, negative feelings and contradictory movements. A state in which the energy doesn’t flow freely and cannot be directed towards the person’s authentic movement, towards the person’s creative potential (energy is blocked, impaired or not accessible). While sanity or health is a state in which the body-mind is a vehicle that supports the movement of one’s Soul and that allows the natural flow of one’s Being.

Soul is the ultimate creator; Soul contains all the qualities. When we re-tune to our natural state of Being, everything is already there: guidance, wisdom, knowledge (intuitive inner knowing), strengths, solidity, true power, passion, enthusiasm, curiosity, peace and serenity, love, joy, etc. All human qualities are naturally there.

Yet, how those qualities will be manifested in the physical reality depends on the type of channel through which they are passing. Our body-mind is just a channel. Disease is when the channel is obstructed, sanity is when the channel is open and fully allowing the energy to flow. Healing happens when we start freeing ourselves from the blockages that were impairing the natural flow of our energy. Sometimes it can be like a river that can finally flow because the dam has been opened. Yet, both mind and body might take time to transform, they are slower and need to adapt to the new flow of energy that arises when the channel opens, they need time to trust and relax, the whole biochemistry of the body changes when we heal on a deep level.
